Happy Halloween!

So here's my official costume: I went as Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls!

I went to a couple of Halloween parties last Friday, and this was my costume. Too bad it was dark and cold outside. I spent most of the evening in a cardigan, and I really basically dress like this anyway, so most people didn't get it. But it's okay because I knew it was cute!

It's a really simple costume, too, and cost me less than $5 because I already had most of it in my closet.

My roomate dressed up as Fix it Felix from Wreck it Ralph, and her sister went as a deer.

I hope you guys had a great Halloween!

Why yes, I do love this outfit, thanks for asking! I just kept layering things until I looked like a swooshy colorblocked dream.

Here's some things happening lately:
1. I've been watching tons of Buffy.
2. I have a gigantic ulcer on the inside of my lip.
3. It's tights weather, but most of my tights are at home!
4. Group projects suck.

Guest Post: DIY Bloody Oxfords

Hey guys! Today I've got a cute and creepy Halloween guest post by Skye of My Kingdom for a Hat for you. She's got a weird and fearless sense of style, and I really admire her guts (lololol). Enjoy!

Hey y'all! I'm the mistress of absurdity over at My Kingdom for a Hat. I live for Halloween, and I'm delighted to spread my passion for plague and pestilence all over the blogosphere. Today I'll be teaching you how to stain and style your very own bloody oxfords.

You will need...

1 pair of shoes (white is best, obviously. Other colors might work, but I can't promise the red will interact with them as well as it does with white.)
1 box of Borax
1 cup of water (adjust amount for preference, and make sure to use a cup you don't care about ruining)
1 teaspoon
Red and blue food coloring

Oh yeah, and a towel. Can you tell I do this a lot?

Add Borax to water by the teaspoon. The amount is up to you. I used about 6 teaspoons to about a cup and a half of water to get a nice slimy, not-too-viscous consistency. If you're going more for guts than blood, use more Borax. Keep stirring until you reach your desired texture.

Add red and blue food coloring. Again, the specific amounts depend on personal preference. Just make sure to use much more red than blue. Stir until blended.

Dip your fingertips in the mixture and flick drops onto the shoes. The blood will bead up, but don't be tempted to smear it; it'll start to run on its own soon enough.

If you so desire, squirt a few more drops of red food coloring over the shoes. This will create a nice layered color.

Give them ten or so minutes to dry, and there you have it! A super-quick way to give any outfit a touch of the macabre.

It might be fun to work these into a subtler look, wherein the shoes were the only real pop of absurdity. But I'm me, so I went all out with my Hell Bunny dress and Spirit Halloween headband. I got the jacket for $5 at a thrift store, and it's one of the best-worn items in my closet.

Happy Halloween! Be sure to check my blog over the next few days for more holiday finery.

Quick Halloween Costumes

Hi guys!

Here's a few easy Halloween costume ideas. These are more or less clothes from my closet, with a few alterations. I photoshopped the extras, but all you'd need is a little fabric paint or a trip to Goodwill!

A country bumpkin!
1. A plaid shirt
2. Some jeans
3. Some boots
4. A straw hat
5. Pig tails

From the Wizard of Oz!
1. A blue dress
2. Some red shoes
3. White socks
4. A white undershirt
5. Blue ribbons for your pig tails
6. A basket, and maybe a stuffed Toto!

Ariel!
1. A flesh-toned shirt with seashells painted on it (check this DIY)
2. A green skirt with scales painted on it
3. Some green shoes
4. A dinglehopper for good measure

I really brain stormed up a bunch of red-haired characters this year, so here's a list of some that I thought would be cool (but might take more planning.)
-Jesse from Team Rocket
-Kim Possible
-Wendy (of Wendy's)
-Daphne from Scooby Doo
-Flame Princess from Adventure Time

What are you guys going as for Halloween?

Those Fall Colors

I am like 99% sure I've worn this dress and sweater together before, and only 60% sure I didn't post it. But it really is a great combination, I think, so here it is again!

I love this dress, it makes me so happy! I got it during the Modcloth sale, and any time any Dear Creatures piece goes under $50, I'm there. Unfortunately, I've had to tighten my belt lately... some financial troubles and all. I guess that's part of growing up. Can I not?

Been having some anxiety issues for the past few weeks and I've just been feeling seriously under the weather... that's why things have been kinda slow. I'm not really in the blogging mood. Don't worry about little ol me though, things always look up eventually.

Also, goddamn my stupid cowlick! It was pissing me off all day, tickling my forehead and making my bangs look all greasy and unmanageable. Every time I think I like my fringe and want to cut myself a pixie, it creeps up in my grill.

I'm going to a dorky little Halloween party tonight, so you'll see my costume soon! I've got a couple other Halloween-themed posts lined up for you, too.

Keep Yo Head Up

You guys I am such a fan of this outfit. And like, it's nothing special really, it's just really nice. The dress (it's actually a romper) is definitely one of the best thrift store finds I've ever found ever. It fits perfectly and idk, just goes with everything. The shoes were from Urban's sale last week and are basically my favorites. My Mom's super jealous of them.

I took pictures with Travis here last year on a similarly cloudy day, and I think I'll come here more often! It's relatively free of people and it's actually a research park and no one is gonna get mad at me for taking pictures with my tripod. Plus if I pull over on the side of the road I sometimes feel unsafe because I'm a girl on the side of the road by myself. And it's pretty!

And though I was with Travis, I took these with my tripod so I had complete creative control. And it's way easier with buddy to focus on, guys.
