Absence

So, this dress came into my work. Brand new, with tags, still on the freakin' Modcloth website. We were selling it for $22. I was like "holy shit that's an Emily and Fin I need to own it," obviously. Only problem is it's a size XS, and well, I'm a pretty solid M. But I squeezed my butt into this beauty, and look at me now! It's a little hard to breathe deeply, but this is a price I am willing to pay. I can't believe my luck!!

I'm happy to be visiting home right now. You know what they say about absence, it makes the heart grow fonder. My Mom took me thrifting and I got a ton of wonderful goodies! Lots of pots and some pillows and some grandma-shoes. And I got to hug my cat again! Work was really busy this week, and I think I deserve this 4 day weekend I'm having. I literally slept for 15 hours on Friday. And then I took a nap.

Oh and check it out! I have a Fossil bag! I do love my work because it means I can afford things like this, and I'm recycling clothing, too! This pretty baby cost me like $12. It's the first time in years I've carried something that's not brown.

Bra Free

There's a couple of things I'm not going to compromise on:
1. I'm not gonna shave.
2. If I don't feel like wearing a bra, I'm not gonna wear a bra.

I understand that there are certain things I can't do at work, like wear crop tops and ripped tights, and that's fine, I can handle it. But keeping my hairy legs and letting the girls loose are two tiny ways that I can promote my ideals, so to speak. We feel ashamed about things like body hair and nipples, and that ain't right, it ain't right at all! I can oppose the patriarchy and still look professional enough for work.

I don't wanna come off like I'm trying to make a big ol' statement here, because bra burning is nothing new. But I do want to do my part in normalizing things that should be considered normal, like a healthy love for our own bodies.

I took these pictures in a corner of our apartment, which is slowly starting to shape up! My plants are doing better already, and I'm so excited about it. I want to find them some pretty pots to make them feel special! Hopefully the place will be cute enough to share on the blog soon.

The last time I wore these shoes to work they killed my feet, so I'm going to bring a backup pair this time.

Planting

I've got some plants now.

But I'm not good at keeping them happy. I am trying to do all the right things for them like watering and sunlight and talking to them, but I still keep finding yellow leaves! Not so much on these, the succulents are doing great. But I just want my plants to be happy.

I wore this for a long day at work. The resale store I work at just had it's grand opening, so instead of just buying clothes to stock the place, we're selling now too and it's very busy. There were so many people today it made me dizzy about halfway through my 8 hour shift. But since we opened I got to buy all the pretty things I'd been wanting since I started working! This shirt was one of them. I know it doesn't look like anything special, but everytime I look at my new clothes I get smiley.

Here is me being happy after finding a flower growing on one of the succulents!

And here's a tiny speck of cleavage. It's all I got.

I don't really know what my life's heading towards right now. I like my work, I'm tired a lot, I'm rewatching FMAB, and my nails have never looked worse. I hope Travis gets a better job soon because the one he has isn't giving him enough hours for us to pay the bills.

Cancellations and Decorations

My birthday was last month, and Travis had planned to take me on a special birthday princess day. But this past month has been more than hectic, so he didn't get to until today!

Some things that caused the delay:
- While I enjoy work, my schedule is erratic, so my days off didn't coincide with his.
- Travis didn't have a car until recently
-Travis' debit card expired and we had to wait for a new one
- I had to take Travis to the ER. Easily the scariest day of my life, he had taken too many sleep aids in an effort to take a nap (insomniac) and basically was a walking zombie with memory loss. I didn't handle it very calmly. He's okay now, they kept him overnight with an IV drip and gave him something to bring down his heart rate. And now I've hidden the Ambien.

Those are all good reasons for me to not blog, too, but hopefully I'll get back in the groove. Anyway, today I finally got to have my special day! We went to brunch at one of my favorite restaurants, and then to take pictures by the river! Then as my present, Trav said he'd take me to buy a gift of my choice! But right now I'm stressing over what to pick... it's too much pressure!

I have so many beautiful dresses and shoes, especially from my work. And I want pretty stuff for the apartment, but I have no idea where to shop! Please give me your home decor store reccomendations, I've tried Modcloth but it's mostly super-quirky stuff, and I don't want to fill my house with cat shaped salt and pepper shakers, I want some solid colors in the mix too. And I like some stuff from UO but I'm trying not to shop there much (plus it's pricey anyway).

(wringing water out of my skirt)

I spent the rest of the day doing some crafts; a productive day is my idea of a good one. :)

PS. I've stopped shaving my legs and armpits (yknow bc of the patriarchy). Not sure if you can see my fuzzy underarms, they're pretty wispy even at full length haha!

Sunshine

If I was a bright spot the other day, today I'm the freaking sun!

I made this dress a few months ago using Annika's tutorial to line it. I don't think I did a super de duper job, but I like it enough to wear it in public, and I'll never go back to unlined dresses, lining works so much better! It has been pretty rainy here lately, people have even been complaining that it's cold (which is crazy imo).

The store I work at hasn't opened yet, we're just buying people's used clothes right now, and I'm really ready for us to have our opening, if only to buy the dresses I've picked out! I'll probably spend about half of my paycheck there :p

We took these photos in like 10 minutes because the mosquitoes were eating us alive.

Bright Spot

The weather today wasn't exactly cheery, but I looked like a freakin patch of sunshine in my sparkly new dress! Never don't feel great in polka dots, twee collars, and straw hats. I've been waiting for these shoes to go on sale for ev er (because I don't buy clothes from UO full price for several reasons) and they finally did! I had a similar DIY pair last year but they kept coming undone.

On my day off yesterday I went shopping with my sister (as if I have money to spend) but I don't feel guilty! We had a good time and I bought her some glitter eyeliner to try and repay her for the great birthday presents she got me this year - eyebrow makeup and a blender, like, what else could I need?

Work goes by pretty quickly, which is nice, but I always feel pretty pooped afterward. I had planned on getting Trav to take pictures for me today but he got a real bad case of heartburn so I just took these on my patio as it started to rain. This patio will look nice someday, I swear. Or maybe it won't... I really don't see us renewing our 12 month lease if ya get my drift.

((Bask in my glorious profile))

As I'm still settling in and wishing we had bookshelfs to unpack our knick knacks and books onto, the most notable things I spend my free time doing are painting and watching anime(s). I'm watching Utena and Nichijou with Travis, and working through Code Geass on my own time. I have some thoughts about that show, and most of them aren't good. I started Oran High Host Club last night and it's a delight and a departure from all the shonen I've been devouring (>100 episodes of Fairy Tail lololol). Yeah so gimme recommendations!!
