Postsecret

I've been wanting to add some variety to this blog. So today I thought I'd share one of my favorite things with you!
I know this isn't news or anything, but if you haven't heard of postsecret, it's a project started by Frank Warren, where you send in your anonymous secret. He posts them ever sunday on postsecret.com, and he's made books filled with 'em. I always save my favorites to my hard drive. Here are a few of them.
There's this girl I kindof know. And she really bugs me. She's smart, beautiful, funny, talented at everything, and to top it off, she's really nice. So I can't hate her!
Recently, she shared a postsecret with someone over facebook, and it was one of the ones I saved to my computer! At first I was annoyed to have anything in common with her. But then I thought, I have a lot in common with her. I'm smart and talented! Though probably not as saintly, we're really not all that different. And that, I think, is the beauty of postsecret. Not only is it interesting, it unifies us. We realize the things we share with anonymous people from all over the world who have the same secrets we do, or the similar tastes we have with people who we think we don't like.

Messy Hair

 Hey! Here is my butt.
You guys, I need a camera so bad. I hate waiting to see my boyfriend who lives 2 hours away, just to get to a camera. It does give me an excuse to go see him, though! Not that I need another.
My hair looks a mess here. I'm trying to weasel my way into a free cut, but I don't even know what I'd want!
 I'm really self centered.
And I don't mean that in a bad way or in a good way, just in a true way.

Kneedy

Got this vest awhile back and just wore it this week! Because I just altered it to fit me last week.
Also digging how well my nails match a couple of the stones in my necklace. It's Sally Hanson, and this shade also perfectly matches the green chewey Sweetart flavor. No joke.
Since I have this picture here, I thought this would be a good opportunity to talk (or ramble) about insecurities. I've got a few, as I think most people do, and one of them is my knees! This is a really recent insecurity of mine, which has really emerged due to seeing all these skinny ladies with their skinny legs on the internet. I don't mind my thighs, but for some reason, my knees freak me out! I guess they're not the prettiest body part in general, haha!
I also really hate my forehead. Whenever I forget my curling iron, and my bangs are curly, I have to pin them back. Sometimes people will say I look weird with my bangs back. Once when this happened, I told my class "Hey I'm insecure about my forehead, don't tell me I look weird, please!" and it resulted in the whole class scrutinizing my forehead and saying "Oh, silly Rachel, it's not so bad!" And I was like "Ugh just stop looking at it!"
Some insecurities, like my forehead, I cover up. But I'm not going to let my knees stop me from wearing shorts and skirts, especially in this Carolina weather! How do you handle your least favorite body parts?

I Can't Get No

I really liked these pictures. That's why there are a lot of them! Here's a fun fact: My natural face when I'm relaxed looks really sad. People are always asking me what's wrong, and I have to say "Oh nothing, it's just my face!"
Something I've been thinking about is satisfaction. And why can't I get it? I spend a lot of my time drawing and painting and sewing and not letting my hands go idle. And when I finish a project, there's this brief moment of "Oh hey this is great I am proud" before I get bored again and feel like I'm wasting my time. It might be a product of a life-is-short mentality, or I might be just be too type A. Okay I know I'm too type A. But maybe I'm not the only person out there that can't just sit back and be happy with where they are in life, and even if I am, maybe it's a good thing? Maybe if I let myself sit still, I'd never create anything.
There's probably a balance to this that I just haven't discovered.

Changes

More pictures from the beach! These pictures were taken while waiting for the ferry that took us to an aquarium. In a field of flowers, because someone thought that it was a good idea to plant a huge field of flowers next to a ferry. It was, wasn't it?
Being home after travelling always feels a bit weird to me. But lately I guess most things feel a bit weird to me.
Do you ever talk to someone you haven't seen in years and wonder if they can tell how much you've changed? Whenever I see one of my old highschool friends, I get nervous about how we'll get along, because I know I've changed so much in the 2 years since I've seen them. And they must have changed too, right? But they never seem all that different. Maybe people don't do all that much changing, or revert to the person they once were by talking to old friends. But then again, maybe I never notice their change because I'm too busy paying way more attention to myself.

Just Beachy

Here are some pictures Travis and I took on my family beach trip. About half of these are Instagrammies! It was a lot of fun. But I'm home now...

Wedding Bells (Not Mine)

I got to attend the wedding of one of my highschool classmates the other day! It's the second wedding of one of my peers I've been to this summer, and now I feel like I'm getting old! Not really, 20 is on the young side for marriage. Maybe people only do that in the south, I don't know. It was a pretty ceremony and it was nice catching up with friends I hadn't talked to in like, 2 years. Which is my own fault, really, for not keeping in touch.
So this is what I wore! For summer weddings, I think pastels. I mean, I'm no professional, but that sounds about right, right? I made this dress last year. It was my second dress ever! You can kindof tell by the off kilter hem and about a million other things I don't want to point out to you! Just be impressed, I made it out of a curtain, okay!?
Also check out this hydrangea. Hydrangeas have to be my favorite flower. I kept trying to keep that red lily out of my shots because it was throwing off my color scheme, haha.
I made this necklace from some beads I found on sale at Hobby Lobby. It was kindof quasi-inspired by an anthropologie necklace and one I saw on etsy.
Here's Travis's little outfit. Boy do I love his bowtie!
I'm at the beach now, so there will be some beachy pictures to come! Hope you all are having a nice week!
