Baaa

Did you guys know my tripod is broken?
This'll be the third one I've gone through and this one cost $30! I'm actually out of spending money right now, but does anyone have any recommendations for good ones? I can use it in the studio, but I'm afraid to take it anywhere in case it falls apart. Which is okay for winter because I do not care enough about getting cool backdrops to go taking my coat off outside.

So I'm gonna go ahead and tell you, I was prescribed some antidepressants recently for my anxiety and depression issues. I'm only a week in so I don't know if they work yet, but I'm really hoping for the best!

Here at school we just took midterms, and I've got spring break in a week. Pretty soon I'll be ready to share my senior thesis with all of you, so I'm really excited about all that! We have a big show April 4th, which is coming up quick, real quick.

  1. I recommend Gorillapod. I've been using mine for almost a year with no complaints. They hook onto anything, and you can get lots of cool angled shots.

Good luck with the meds! Be prepared for diminished appetite and sex drive, but there are otc supplements you can take to offset that.

    1. Thanks! It's an SSRI, and the doctor said if I have low sex drive she might prescribe wellbutrin to offset it.

  2. I second the gorillapod recommendation, I often attach mine to trees when I'm out and about. The only thing is that it's annoying if you don't have any tall things to attach it to because then you just have to have it on the ground, but I've attached it to lamp posts (it may have slowly slid to the ground but it was fine =p).

I'm sure you've been told this but I found when I started going on meds for my anxiety and depression I found any food that had flavour made me feel sick so I loved off plain pasta and porridge for a few weeks but it did wear off! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, hopefully your meds will help you as much as mine helped me =)

    1. I'll definitely look into Gorillapod!
I actually hadn't heard that as a side effect! I was told to give it a few weeks so I could adjust though. Thanks!

  3. I can't recommend a good tripod or anything but I think that's really brave of you to come out and say that you're taking anti-depressants. Sometimes it's necessary to take them in order to clear the clouds away so to speak. I too have been on and off many forms of anti-anxiety meds and am a firm believer in them but honestly... the only thing that truly helped me is to force myself to workout everyday. I hate it but it's proven to be more effective than any form of medicine. I'm not opposed to taking meds.... don't get me wrong. It's really hard to control my anxiety though... I've actually trained myself to breathe a certain way or to think certain thoughts... it helps. Good luck on your venture. Cute sheep sweater!!

    1. Thanks! I'm really trying to do my little part to de-stigmatize mental illnesses.
I'm also going to therapy regularly, and I work out twice a week (I dont like it either though). Maybe I should go more often!

    2. have you guys tried zumba? I used to be THE world's worst dancer and was super embarassed when i started but now i can hold my own and am pretty average in the class & it makes getting exercise so much more fun for me, as someone who absolutely dreads going out running and such, although ironically i ran cross country/track in HS. zumba is on my top 5 list of "wished i'd have done in college" list, also bcuz i would've helped me dance better & have less anxiety at bars, etc. when everyone was dancing.

  4. This is the tripod I have and I love it! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D60LG8/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I've had it for about 2 years now and haven't had any issues. I also use it to prop things up on my craft show display tables so it's proven sturdy. :)

Good luck with the meds. All the trial-and-error of finding the perfect combination is so difficult to go through. My boyfriend has given up on finding the perfect fit because he can't take all the stress of trying new things and meeting new doctors, but I know one day it'll be too much and he'll have to try again. All I can do is be supportive and I hope you have that support yourself from friends and family! Definitely helps at least a little bit. <3

  5. Meds can really be the thing you need to turn the corner, sometimes. Brain chemistry can be a serious bitch, I know. I will cross my fingers that they A. work awesomely and B. do so with the absolute barest minimum of side effects!

I love this outfit, with the sweater over the dress. That sweater is preeeeetty much lighting up my day right now.

  6. Love this dress, Rachel! Such a great cut & color. About your meds - I hope they help you! I'd probably be on them too if I didn't practice yoga and smoke weed. Just sayin' :)

  8. A very cute sheep :) I like it combined with the purple.

As for tripods, I think it depends on what kind of a camera you have. If you have a point and shot, I'd try the gorrilapods that have been mentioned. I hear great things about them. If it is a camera with a lens, I'd save up my pennies and invest in a good one, possibly from the camera company (Nikon or Canon).

Very honest of you to talk about your antidepressants here. I hope things start feeling more normal soon...

    1. Yeah it seems like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and pay some actual money for one!
      Thanks, Kristian!

  9. did i already comment here on loving your sweater over the dress & that color of the dress? i swear i did but i dont see it so maybe i just wrote it up in my head... wow if that's what happened. also, i love your honestly on the meds, it's def important to break that stigma. i suffer from seasonal depression every year, but have only tried meds once, for one day, it made my heart beat really fast all day and freaked me out, although of course it could've just been that specific one. hope it helps you! hugs to you dear!

  10. You might have to wait a few more weeks to really see the effect of the medication. I'm not speaking from experience but just from what I know by reading and such. Personally I have positive opinions on medication and I'm a believer of 'there's no harm in trying'.
I hope they work for you and I would love to hear about your experience with them. It can be an interesting topic of debate and the more information about medication out there the better.

    Also, cute jumper ;)
