How

So I just got back from a long weekend!

Well it wasn't supposed to be long. But I left school early on Friday, skipped Monday's class, and Election day was off! I hope you all voted! I made two dresses while I was gone, painted a ton, and threw together my big old 7 page paper just this afternoon! That may or may not seem like a long paper to you. Just remember, I'm an Illustrator! Pictures, not words, are my forte!

I dunno if you've noticed (I'll forgive you if you haven't) but I've been wearing these shoes like crazy lately. Nevermind that they're sandals. I'm wearing freaking socks under them so I can wear them all year! This chartruse sweater goes with everything, I swear.

In other news, I read the word "how" today and thought, "is that even a word?"
I hope you guys had a good election day and weekend!

Politics

Don't worry, I won't be bashing your party. Just the SYSTEM.
My fellow Americans, election day is coming up, am I right? I've been hearing a lot of smack talk on both sides, and I'm a little bit sick of it. I think the problem is the "both sides" thing. People line themselves up with a party and then indiscriminately hate candidates (and members) from the "opposing team" so to speak. The bipartisan system we have just fosters this whole dichotomy the country has going on. I'm not gonna lie, I'm voting for Obama this Tuesday. And I'm not gonna claim that I know tons about politics. But it seems to me that we as a people should vote for whoever has the best ideas for the country, not whoever has the label "democrat" or "republican".

And I know you're gonna say "Oh I totally agree!" But maybe you still say "they" when referring to the party you don't consider yourself a part of. And maybe you still call the candidate by his party name, and lump all conservatives (or liberals) together. And maybe you wouldn't consider voting across party lines.

I don't think the world's going to fall apart if the republican wins, guys. And it may just be my contrary nature, but members of both parties have been really grinding my gears lately.

You guys know there're issues with the way the election system works, I know you do. Sorry if I stepped on any toes. What's important is that you get out there and vote!
Here're plenty of outfit pictures to make up for my ranting!
I pulled over on the side of the highway with my tripod to take these pictures, and lemme tell you. It was empowering! I used my sunglasses as a sepia filter haha.
I'm really looking forward to this long weekend, even though I've got tons and tons of work to do.

Cupcakes! On my Dress!

Shazaaaam!
There are cupcakes on my dress.
This is the DIY'd result of my dryer ripping the buttons off of this dress (since then it's gotten the one on the back, too). I swear I put these things in a delicates bag, but does it help? NO. My bra clasp got so tangled in the mesh of the bag that I had to cut it out, and now anything slinky slips right out of it through the quarter sized hole! You know, I really did enjoy doing laundry once upon a time.
I've been kindof hating everything I own (and a whole bunch of other stuff) lately.
I watched TiMER (why the little i?) on netflix, and it was everything I want in a movie. Cute, witty, romantic, bittersweet. It even had an Iron and Wine song at the end.

I think I ended out the Modcloth contest in 10th place. Haha. But, hey! I was in the finals and I'm proud of myself. I'd like to thank all of you that voted! It really means a lot to me!

Cotton

Looks like I wore the same shirt two posts in a row! Things are gettin WILD on this blog!
I went out into the historical district to take these pictures, on a side road in front of my tripod. Whenever anyone drove by I'd kind of pretend I was taking pictures instead of standing in front of the camera. Haha.
I'm not sure what this place was when it was operating, but I think it might have had something to do with cotton.
I really was pleased with how the pictures came out, though, and I had a really nice time out running errands by myself. I've resolved to do it more often. Because does it really matter if anyone sees me out taking pictures of myself? No.
I think I wore this same belt in the last post, too.

Pumpkin Post

Check out my cat. He is having the time of his life rolling around on the driveway, isn't he? Do you ever wish you could just enjoy rolling around that much?
So this is my pumpkin post. Haaaaaaalleeluiaaaaaa! Doesn't that gourd look a little angelic?
How do you guys format your pictures so they are all uniform? I had them all at the same size (like 8 inches across) but then they were all too small to use for anything else. So now they're bigger, but too big to put at original size on here, and when I made them extra large, they don't end up the same width.
I have been Netflixin' it up lately. I highly recommend The IT Crowd.
But anyway, this pumpkin patch was utterly deserted. No one was even selling them. We're a family of goodie-two-shoes (how do you make that plural? goodies-two-shoes?) though, so we just took pictures and then went and bought one at Walmart. Ha.

I'm a Modcloth Finalist! Vote for Me!

Oh my gosh guys, oh my gosh.
My design is a finalist in the Modcloth Make the Cut contest! I am really freaking out. I love Modcloth, for their products, their marketing, their customer service, and I'm flattered to be chosen to be a finalist among so many other great entries! And I really really want to win!
So here's me pleading with you: please go and vote for mine! It's a sweet pinafore (with pockets) that would be incredibly versatile.

Wouldn't you want to wear it? Then go and vote! Your support means the freaking world to me.

Green Gingham

I spent last weekend at my Grandma's, and she taught me how to sew! Ok I know a little bit about sewing, but I've never done it with a pattern. Normally I just wing it and see what I end up with! This time I picked one out, and it turned out to be a lot more complicated than I thought it would be. My Grandma is a freaking wiz with a sewing machine, though!
I ended up looking a little like Dorothy with my green gingham, and I probably should have made the dress in an 8, not a 6.
My Grandma lives in the mountains of North Carolina, and even though I've been there a thousand times, driving myself was a brand new experience. The scenery was pretty breathtaking, and the light on the way home (you know that evening gold light that starts around 6) was beautiful.
