Anime Babes Part 1

I'm working on an ongoing series about my favorite anime characters. So here are all the anime babes I've painted in the past month!

Sailor Moon
Obviously. The most relatable character ever, she loves eating, sleeping, video games, and still saves the world. I wish I was her.

Greed (as Ling, FMA)
Seriously, I have such a crush on him. Tbh I can't even really explain it, but when Greed took over Ling's body it was the most perfect and logical plot twist. And he's so cool, I can't stand it.

Asuka (NGE)
Okay so she's mean and bossy as hell (Travis always teases me for relating to her so much), but she's complex and has had to deal with way too much for a 14 year old. She's so strong, and I love her for all her flaws.

Homura (Madoka Magica)
It was really hard for me to choose between Madoka and Homura from PMMM, but Homura is really a badass. She seems stand offish, but she's really just had to harden herself against circumstance, and I admire her.

Kamina (Gurren Lagann)
He's such a babe, I can't help but love him. Girl power will always be my first love, but he's just the embodiment of masculine-friendship-power and it's adorable and inspiring as heck. He really stays with you for the whole series, if you know what I mean.

That's all I got for now, but you can bet more are in the works (L from Death Note, Mako from Kill la Kill, and Jet from Cowboy Bebop to name a few <3!!) What are your fave characters??

Guest Post at Some Girl

I was so super busy this past week that I completely forgot about my guest post that went up on Emily's blog on Wednesday! To see the process work behind this piece, check it out here, and be sure to follow her lovely blog while you're at it!

Stress and De Stress

Ya'll, I'm tired.

Very pleased to say that my Senior Portfolio Show is done, thank God. We had a really great turn out and it was nice to show off all my work and get positive feedback. Our speaker, Nathan Yoder, did a great job, and was a total cutie imo. I'm not quite done with my lookbook, so you'll have to wait another week or so before my clothes are for sale (if my teacher ever approves the design, jfc), but I do have a shiny new portfolio site!

Now that the senior show stress is all over, I just have normal stress to deal with! I've been on my antidepressants for about a month and a half now, so I thought I'd let you know how that was all working out. I had headaches for the first couple weeks, but those went away. I've been dealing with some sexual side effects, and I've lost about 10 lbs because I just don't have as much of an appetite. I'm paying attention to my weight and how much I eat, but I'm not going to worry unless I slip below 120 lbs, because that would get me into the underweight territory. I'm mostly worried because a lot of my cute clothes are too big for me now haha!

Other than that, they've been really good! I still have some anxious nights and bad moods, but I feel much more positive overall. It's a lot easier to handle bouts of anxiety when you're not depressed about it.

I feel like that all sounds like small potatoes when I can sum up my whole senior show into like a sentence and a half, because it really was a huge amount of work. I've mentally moved on to graduation, Italy, finding a job, and moving into an apartment with Travis.

Campus Princess

I like how well these tights match my skin color. Almost fooled you into thinking it's spring weather here, huh! It's close, though. This week is supposed to be in the 70s <3

It's been awhile since I've worn this dress because it seems like a winter dress to me, but the short hem and no sleeves say otherwise. So I just had it hanging on my wall like the beautiful piece of art it is... It doesn't really jive with my ever more simplistic style these days, either, but it made me feel like a princess around campus!

So nothing is really new in my neck of the woods, just doing school things/trying to put off doing school things. I'm really looking forward to getting any amount of money so that I can use it to buy a new tripod. Then I can take photos outside again in the beautiful springy weather!! Been spending all my pennies on things like portfolios and business cards. Grown up things cost a lot. At least my business cards are actually adorable. I'll share them on here soon!

If you're wondering about the verdict on this hairdye, I used Splat and it's faded a bit after two washes in cool water. It still looks pretty even and it's still a nice shade at this point.

Peach

Spring break was wonderful, but now I'm back at school!

No, but really. Coming back was really stressful because I was dreading it, and because being in this environment drains me. Plus Monday I ran all around campus trying to print out these ugly damn poster layouts for class because the lab's printer was broken :p

I only have one month left of school, forever and ever amen, and my senior show is less than 2 weeks away! Yikes! I'm so ready for it just to be behind me. Then I can focus on important things (like coding websites lololol jk).

So even though Monday was icky, I'm certain Tuesday will be better. Tuesdays are wayyyyy nicer to me.

Are you wondering if I bought this shirt because it matches my hair? I did.

I hope your weeks are off to a pleasant start! Spring's acomin and all that!

White Space

There's something I really love about today's photos, but it's probably not that they're actually good photos.
I think I just like that they evoke some mood, at least for me.

My hair turned out perfect this last time. My sister bleached it for me over the weekend and then I used Splat dye this time. Idk how it will hold up in the shower, as I haven't washed it yet, but it's the perfect color! The dye was really magenta so I was worried I'd have to walk around lookin like a highlighter again, but really this is the color I've been searching for <3

I'm on my spring break, which is really nice because I am so over school. Like more than I have ever been in my life. My broken ass tripod is still there, so I had a heck of a time shooting these with the camera propped up on the car. :(

I gotta get some stuff done now, before I go crazy from just sitting here!

Obsessions: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

(No major spoilers)
So, I did the dorkiest thing I've ever done the other night in class. I was trying to take a picture of my sketchbook in a dark room, where a critique was going on on the projector, and the flash went off. The thing in my sketchbook I was so eager to photograph was a fanart of Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist with hearts drawn around him. Never in my life did I think it would come to this.

I know the type of people that love FMA, and they can get hella lame. But it's really more of a sorry not sorry situation, because it really is that good.

So if you know even less than I did a month ago (I thought the suit of armor was a girl because it had a ponytail), it's the story of two boys in a pseudo Industrial Revolution Germany named Ed and Al. There's something called alchemy in this world and it's basically magic. Ed and Al lose their mother to some disease and try to bring her back to life using alchemy, and the price they pay is their bodies. Ed loses an arm and a leg, and Al loses his whole body, and spends the show as a talking suit of armor. They're trying to get their bodies back the whole show, but bigger shit goes down.

I think one of things that makes the show so good is it's widespread appeal. There's a wide variety of characters, and they're all important. It's not just about two kids, so it's not just directed towards young boys. The coolest part for me was how the show treats women. You kinda get used to the way females are treated in media (particulary action storyies, both Eastern and Western), as side-characters, a kind of breather you take from the main story to add a bit of romance or sexual tension or something for whoever the main dude is. But FMA actually treats it's women as humans. And it's kind of wonderful. I swear there were only two instances that could even be considered fan service across all 5 seasons, and all the female characters had depth, their own motivations, and agency. They literally could have swapped the genders of the characters and it wouldn't have made a difference, so color me impressed. I guess that's what you can expect from a manga written by a real live woman.

It especially surprised me because I know a lot of people who like it because it's "badass." Sure, maybe sometimes, but honestly, the main character is a twerp that spends the show growing up. Like, they're a couple of kids that don't know what they're doing most of the time, and I found it to be a lot more touching than fuckyeahbadass.

Other noteworthy things:
An amazing job of slowly aging the characters
Great balance of funny to serious moments
Compelling characters, each and every one
First season theme song was cool af
Al (as a human) had a great haircut
Greed/Ling is my waifu

Anyway, I definitely recommend watching through it if you haven't. The first four seasons are on Netflix, and you can find part 5 with a quick Google search.

Next on my list: Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Death Note, Attack on Titan, K-On. I'm considering watching through the original FMA, too, since it's got a different storyline. Any recommendations are welcome!

Looking Forward

Here's me, practically blonde again. Some things I'm looking forward to:

1. My trip to Italy.
2. Not having to be in Journalism anymore (or any other college class ever).
3. Having enough money for a new tripod.
4. Getting my roots touched up and my hair trimmed and re-pinked.
5. The beautiful weather we'll have for the next few weeks.
6. The weekend. Always the weekend.

I'm really pleased that it's hard to tell in these photos, but these tights are complete shit. They had so little elasticity they were practically pants, and kept bagging up at my knees. I guess that's what I get for sitting in the fetal position so often, but that's kindof the theme of this semester: curl up in a ball and wait til it's over.

I desperately need a painting day. Seeing a doctor helps, but I find that watercolors and long drives are the best therapy.

On a lighter note, my spring break is right around the corner! I am literally remembering that as I type, so it will be really great to have a week off to laze around with Travis, paint (see above) and collect my thoughts.
