Basically Famous

Hi guys! I bet you've been wondering: "What did Rachel wear yesterday?"

Yeah, I thought so. So here's what I wore! I for real ought to jazz up the types of posts I do on here. I haven't done a DIY in ages... maybe I'll start showing some of the clothes I alter, too? Would you guys think that's cool?

I kindof love the picture above, because the camera caught the exact moment when the skirt left my hand. Also my legs look surprisingly rugged?

Some interesting goings on in my life right now:

1. We did our one-repetition maxes in weightlifting, and I can bench the least. Out of our entire class.
2. I'm officially tumblr famous, as one of my arts hit 10,000 notes last night!
3. I ate sushi last night instead of school food.
4. One of my old teachers wants me to do a mural for her nursery, which is super exciting.
5. I met with some fine arts kids that are going to put on a military-inspired fashion show! Also very exciting, but I was probably the only kid who didn't know anyone else at the meeting, and stared at my feet most of the time.

Flare Jeans

Helloooooooo jeans!

Now that the weather is finally cooling off a little, I'm getting excited to wear sweaters, drink warm things with whipped cream, and go apple picking (mark my words, I will this year). I found these high waisted flares at American Eagle on sale and thought about them for a whole week before I went back and bought them. I'm glad I did, though, they're actually just as comfy as my skirts.

I wore this outfit to a birthday party of my friend's at a Japanese place where we had to take off our shoes. I was like, "Do these really count as shoes?"

I know it looks like I'm trying really hard to have a good time in this photo, but I really was in a fine enough mood!

Blueberry Muffin

Blueberry muffins are the best muffins.

I have a feeling the oversized cardigan will be my best friend this fall. I've been searching for one of these for months, but no store had any that were, well, grandpa-esque enough for my taste (not even Goodwill)! But I finally found a bunch at our local Miracle Hill, and boy did I stock up! I got three for $8, so now I'm set. Bring it on, fall!

It's finally starting to feel like autumn instead of July, so that's nice! It's my favorite time of the year, and I really hope we get some dramatic foliage this season. I wanna pick an apple and carve a pumpkin or something!

I do kindof like the weird racer-back-but-in-the-front bodice this dress has going on, but I did not realize it gave me saggy-boob syndrome until I saw these photos. I gotta check my posture when I wear this from now on!

I got this sucker on clearance and had to alter it because it was a size too big. I'm really proud of the tailoring job I did, since it got a little complicated. If you care, I had to take the waist in. But since the skirt is multi-layered I couldn't sew straight down the back like I ordinarily would, or else the lining and overlay would be sewn together. So I had to rip the overlay out some and sew the lining and bodice as one. With me? Then I had to close the hole I made and reattach the lining.

Anyway, I love the color.

I did not know what the fuck I was doing with this braid. I just sorta wrapped it around my head and shoved some bobby pins in it! i like how it turned out, but I don't know if it's kosher.

Required Fun

Have you seen enough from me this week? I don't think I posted for like, 5days straight, and then BAM I'm all up on ya!

My dear roomate Laura took these shots for me. She is a talented illustrator who draws the polar opposite of me: men, blood, and monsters. But it's all really good, trust me! We were at a little school-mandated mixer by the lake to meet the freshman. We played Apples to Apples and it was really fun! Never underestimate parties with have no alcohol that you are required to attend, amirite?

Anyway, I super loved my outfit and so I'm very grateful to have had someone to photograph it last minute. This dress was one I found at Goodwill. I hemmed it and used the fabric I cut off to make some straps, since the old ones were kind of deteriorating. The hemming threw off the white-black stripe ratio, but I'm okay with it/too lazy to fix it.

Senior Thesis: Please Take My Survey!

Hey everyone!

So, I have mentioned that I'm doing my senior thesis project this year, and it will be a collection of handmade, hand printed clothes that I am designing start to finish. The theme of the collection is "Nostalgia." I'd really like your feedback on my concept, so I'd be really grateful if you'd all take this survey for me. It's only 10 questions and should take you 5 minutes!

Thanks so much.

Etsy Update: The Return of Vintage!

That's right, I brought vintage back to the shop! Just in time for fall, here are some pretty vintage pieces to jazz up your cooler wardrobe. Use code FALL13 for 15% off your order through the 26th!

In the Studio

Hi guys!
I took these in my studio!

So this is my nice little set up! It leaks from the roof when it rains and only one of the power outlets work, but it gets good light and there's plenty of space. I already spent a whole day up in there altering clothes. I'll probably be using this room a lot for my thesis project: A small collection of clothing designed and made by me, featuring hand printed fabrics!

So stay tuned for that ish. Since a lot of you guys are my "target market" (quirky, fashion conscious 18-25 year old ladies) I want to get your feedback on my process with this. I'll be posting some progress, and don't be afraid to critique it! FYI that means "I don't really think this is working," or "I wouldn't buy that," and that sort of thing. They might even be for sale someday, so I hope you'll like it!
