Discover the South

Hey guys!

Here's me in a lazy weekend outfit, in all my greasy glory. I'm loving the weird primary color combination going on with my shirt, skirt, and hair. We ran a million errands on this day, and Travis took these with his iPhone for me.

Since I am wearing this shirt, I thought I'd talk a little about the good ol' South and how I feel about it.

I grew up below the Mason Dixon line, the first 6 years in VA, and the rest in SC. All throughout high school I was a typical teenager, like "ugh I hate this town when can I get out?" But as I've gotten older, I've grown to appreciate things about the region I live in. I mean, yeah, there are lame things about it, like the lack of cultural diversity (everyone is either white or black and they all go to the same church), and there's a good amount of bigotry, obesity, and close-mindedness ("You're a vegetarian??") But it's beautiful in the South, and there's always some nice country to drive through. People are friendly and don't hesitate to make small talk with you in the grocery store. And life is slow and charming here. Not to mention our tea is sweet!

I have a feeling that teenagers everywhere want to get out of their hometown, regardless of where it is.

Lots of Knits

If the pictures I shared on Wednesday were the epitome of a no-fun hassle, today's were like a walk in the damn park. It was relaxing, dare I say even a therapeutic experience as I took a few hours to drive off of campus, take these shots, and do some errands. Driving is always nice me-time, and I couldn't imagine living in the city and taking public transport everywhere, or being one of those people who refuse to get their licence. I would be a very different (read: more stressed) person if I didn't drive.

Anyway, that's probably why I have so many photos in this post! It's kind of a pet peeve of mine when I see like 20 shots of someone in the same pose, but I think I shook it up some as far as composition goes... besides, it's my blog.

I thought I looked frickin fabulous today. Do you ever have those days when you're like "How is everyone not in love with me? Can't all these people see how good my eyeliner looks?" I hope it's not just me, everyone deserves a healthy helping of self confidence.

I tried to un-sex this crop top (like I care about showing skin) and backseam tights by adding a cardigan and some chunky socks. It was a liiiiiiittle hot with the sweater on, but not too bad. A little preemptive fall layering up in here.

I got this blue shirt at Goodwill this weekend, and chopped it into a crop top. I'd do a DIY but I don't want to insult your intelligence: You cut it, fold it over twice, and sew. One tip I read about that I should share with you is to sew knits with a piece of paper on top to keep it from puckering. Then rip the paper off when you're done!

Oh and I should mention that I have been waiting for this cardigan all my life.

Art Lately

Hey guys! So here's some of my art as of late!
For my anatomy class we've been drawing these animals in a museum, and this is how a lot of mine turn out:

The shop's been super dead lately, so feel free to hit me up for any commissions!

Night Sky

I did really like my outfit today, but taking pictures of it was so lame! It was hot and sticky and I was covered in bugs.

I don't know if this dress looks like much, but I really love it! I found it at Goodwill this past weekend (the first time I've been thrifting in a month and a half!) along with a  couple other treasures. I hemmed it a few inches, and it's perfect! It already fit like a dream, and it's made of a stretchy thick knit fabric. I dressed it up like the night sky with a starry necklace and my moon pin.

Life at school has been a little boring. In my weight lifting class (yes it's required as part of anatomy) we were learning the machines and the boys using them after us were all "Heh heh heh you guys are really trying to bulk up using the heavy weights" because we had it on like 15 lbs. I was like "hahahahahahahaha fuck u." So that's my story for the day.

The thing about brooches is that if you wear them in the normal brooch place, and have long hair, they get covered right up! I really ought to make use of this long hair and wear it in creative ways more often. Because I'll probably chop it off eventually. I'm thinking a bob, but Trav is in support of a pixie!

Late

Weekends are the best. I feel like that's the only time I really even take pictures of anything, and maybe I should try to document weekday life more. But here are a few photos from my last two weekends.

Packing is relaxin.

Cuddlin.

Getting junk food at the drive through.

Buying groceries.

Drawing on ourselves with permanent marker.
I feel like I should explain that this was my attempt at an ottoman-turkish islamic decoration thing, since Travis is really into that. It's not supposed to look like a swastica!

Meeting kitties!

I basically live for the weekends these days, and I usually spend them lazing. This weekend though, I got to meet up with the lovely ladies behind Be Like the Fox and We Live Upstairs, as well as get some much needed shopping (therapy) done. I hope you all have the day off! I still have school on labor day.
