Art Lately

I have actually been incredibly busy with art these past couple of weeks... just not my personal work! These are all commissions I've been fortunate enough to work on with some real classy ladies recently!

Brittany of Silas and Miri had me do a blog header featuring her cute kids!

Kate of Life of Hurrah had me do a header that involved her dog, Waldo!

This one was for Allison of Sproutlet! So fun to draw cacti.

This one was so much fun. I did a series of portraits of some girlfriends who traveled across the US together!

Kelli is a talented musician who commissioned me to do a CD cover!

I was so flattered that Kristian asked me to do paintings of her and her fiancee to be used as cake toppers at her wedding!

Also, I made a bunch of wooden brooches (it was a learning process fo real) and I'm starting to list them in my etsy store! I will start taking custom orders if they sell!

I'm currently available for commissions for blog headers, shop headers, custom portraits, you name it! I'm going to have to up my prices soon (since they are kinda dirt cheap right now), so hit me up!

Umbrella Girl

You wouldn't know it from these photos, but 15 minutes before I took them I was huddled in the copy room at work under a tornado warning! Since I live in the foothills, tornadoes aren't something I usually have to worry about. But in light of the recent Oklahoma tragedy, when people's phones started beeping and saying take shelter, everyone was like SHIT hit the deck!

It was super rainy all morning, so I had originally brought the umbrella to stay dry instead of shady. But I wanted to show it off anyway, it's so cute and ruffly! I went into Target with the express intent of getting a bubble umbrella. And then I didn't.

I am pretty jazzed about this shirt. I lent out my favorite lace shirt to Flock Together, but the stupid USPS lost it. I was a little heartbroken. I went to Forever 21 for a replacement and was really in awe of the number of frickin lace shirts that place had. I went to the dressing room with 8 on my arm!
Pretty much a wardrobe staple, you can throw one on over anything and feel a little more ladylike.

I always kind of like pictures where I'm staring dumbly at the camera?

I "aww"ed at this necklace in Old Navy, and my way-too-sweet mom and sister went back and got it for me. According to Emma, it was supposed to be a birthday surprise (but I guess Mom didn't get the memo).

I'm trying to get used to Travis being in Italy, but it's kind of lame. I am really looking forward to having these next couple of weekends free, though! I've been itching to get sewing for a while now.

Late

I take a lot of pictures while driving because my state puts the SC in SCenery.

Trav and me chilling out pre-makeup. Him, too! No that's a joke.

When Travis and I go outside and I wear my sunglasses, he likes to wear my normal specs. We have pretty comparable vision (read he needs glasses) and let's be real, he looks good.

I've been working a lot with glitter! DIY coming soon.

This is a printed shirt I made for a lady at work! This is the kindof stuff you'll be seeing pop into my etsy store this month.

He looks bangin in my floral crown. They're not just for girls!

I wore a pretty bright shoe/sock combo with my all black outfit.

What I wore to my friends' party!

What have you guys been up to?

Weekend

Let's start the week off with a fun picture, huh?
Or, yknow, two.

This weekend I went to my first college party! I'm like 110% positive that I was the only one there who had never been to something like that before, and probably the only one under 21. I was our group's designated driver lololol. It was to celebrate two of Travis' friends' engagement! And it was actually a lot of fun being the only sober one there.

It also was the last weekend I spent with Travis before he leaves for Italy for a whole month! Not gonna lie, I got a little weepy. We do live a couple hours apart, but I've never gone that long without seeing my best friend! He was super nice to me the whole weekend and even put up with me getting all girly at the mall.

Favorite

This has got to be my favorite ever dress. Some of you might be saying "Rachel it is a normal blue dress chill," but that just means you don't understand! It's so simple and classic and summery with the perfect details; seersucker material, a high neckline and buttons down the back (which I didn't photograph for some reason?)
It's a good thing I like it so much, though, since it's probably the single most expensive thing in my closet. I got it from American Apparel.

Unfortunately, American Apparel items seem to run a bit small, at least in my experience, and I had to send this one back. I'm waiting for my size large now! It's pretty unfair that cool clothing stores don't sell bigger sizes, though. As someone who knows the joy a simple blue dress can bring, I really think girls of all sizes should be able to dress their best.

I took these pictures with Travis at the (state) capitol building. I haven't taken photos here since it was warm last, and we've restarted our tradition of eating a cheapo cheese pizza in the capitol park. Like a picnic, but less healthy!

As I have been whining about, I have a lot of things going on in my life right now. Which is good, I like being busy. One of them is a new laptop. Normally this wouldn't be a big change, but have any of you guys used Windows 8? It makes me feel like an old person! I've finally gotten the hang of it, but I went and left my charger over at Travis's, so I used my old computer (sticky keys and all) this week!

Maroon

WHEW. These are pictures from when my hair was auburn. I'm glad I have a few of these outfits stockpiled because I'm so busy! I know I already complained about that, but my 5 hour a day internship is turning out to be more like 7 hours a day. I'll have more time once Travis goes to Italy, but then I'll be sad. Because he'll be in Italy.

So this dress belongs to Elana of Room 334. It is super cute just like she is. I was pretty disatisfied with these pictures. Something about cloudy days makes my camera go stupid. It's not fair to blame the camera, but that's what I'm doing today.

This guy at the post office told me that in Africa they call burgundy "maroon". He knew that because he was from Africa, but I'm pretty sure people call it maroon here, too!

We are halfway through the week you guys, how about that!?
