Guest Post with Room 334

Today I've got a guest post for you from Elana of Room 334! She is such a cutie, and today she's styling one of my dresses! Be sure to check out her blog.

Hello all! I'm Elana from Room 334 and I'm so excited to be guest posting for Rachel while she's on vacation! I'm spending my spring break sitting on a couch all week in the town where I attend college in Illinois, so it's safe to say that I'm pretty jealous of Rachel right now.

For my guest post, I thought it would be fun to show how I wore one of Rachel's dresses that I borrowed from her via Flock Together. This is actually a little different than a usual look of mine, if only because it feels slightly more casual I suppose. I absolutely loved this dress on Rachel, but it ended up being slightly skimpy on me once I put on it. I experimented with a few different layers, and I finally decided on tying up this sheer polka dot button down over it. I love wearing shirts like this over dresses and I thought that being able to see the mustard hue under the top was a cool touch. Not that I know anything about being cool, but I like to pretend I do.

Thanks so much to Rachel for having me and I hope some of you will come visit me over at my blog! I can promise that you'll find no shortage of sarcasm and polka dots there as well. It's kind of a package deal with me.

Guest Post with Butterfly Loves Snapdragons

Hey guys! Today I'm out of town, so I arranged to have a guest post from the lovely Katie of Butterfly Loves Snapdragons! She is basically the vintage queen, and she's going to share a few tips for you on secondhand shopping!
Enjoy!

Why hello there dears! My name is Katie and I blog on my little space of the web called Butterfly Loves Snapdragons. I am so very delighted to be blogging for the lovely Rachel today. She has such darling and unique style and I never come away without inspiration.
I am quite the vintage loving gal and so (much like Rachel) I buy most of my clothing secondhand. I also have quite the collection of clothing from various grandparents :) I just love when one's clothing has a story or two behind it! It gives the clothes a bit more depth and character, don't you think?
I was just thinking lately of some tips to shopping secondhand, would you care to know? :)

The first tip I have is to check your favorite spots often. Many shops get inventory in every week and so you have a better chance at finding items you like if you go in more frequently. You can also ask the owners what days they put out new merchandise so you can check right away if you're antsy ;)

Secondly, when you go in-have an idea of how much you are willing to spend and bring only that much with you in cash. I've overspent a few too many times before I figured this one out. Sometimes I get a bit too enthusiastic at the cheap prices and come home with a bag of expensive junk.

My third tip is to shop all around the store! I've found things in the little kid's sections, men's sections, and DEFINITELY the old lady's section ;). Also,  don't look only in your size range. Many items have such varied sizes that the tags usually don't mean much anyway.

I figured out the last tip just recently. Make friends with the owners of the shops you like to frequent! I chatted with the lady of one of my favorite antique shops the other day and I happen to mention how much I love vintage hats (as I was buying two of them...what a coincidence...). She then gave me a tip that the following week in her store she was putting in a recently found vintage Christian Dior hat and that she'd give me a deal on it! Well, that just had me tickled pink. It's a mutually beneficial relationship-I get tipped off to the better merchandise, and she gets to (hopefully) make a sale! Can't beat that :)

Hope you can enjoy using some of these tips! Visit me at my blog for more daily outfits and ramblings of mine. I love to meet new readers and discover more blogs!
God Bless all,
KJA

Etsy Shop Update: Springtime

Hey guys! Unfortunately I've been bedridden with the stomach flu for the past 24 hours (that's right, I schedule my posts, you found me out). Luckily, though, I am well on my way to recovery! Don't let the thought of a stomach bug put you off of these cute new clothes I just stocked in my shop for spring!

R-R-Remix

I love my cloud dress. It's probably one of the best dresses I've ever made! Here's a little remix of three ways I wore it.

Unicorn Tee

So, right now I thought I'd be in VA on vacation, but my plans got altered, which I hate. I'll still be going, but for four days instead of 7 (and most of two of those days will be spent driving). Bleah.
So today I went back to the field for my biology class. We've got an ecology project to do right now and it's not fun. My group said to the teacher, "How about we compare the pH levels in the lake vs the wetlands?"and she was like, "How about you count the number of trees." So that's what we're doing and it's not fun. It was so windy out I couldn't see for all the hair in my face, and it was nearly impossible to tell which trees we had already counted.
Plus one of the girls in my group rubs me the wrong way because she doesn't say thankyou when I drive her places to and from the site.
In other, less complainy, news: Check out this shirt I designed! It was for a school assignment on screen printing. I obviously drew a unicorn. I wish I would have gotten to print it myself, but we ran out of time. But luckily I'll get a chance to one by myself in my other printing class.
Also my glasses remind me of Barbie.

Skater Skirt

I got this new skater skirt and I loooooove it! I've been wanting one for awhile, and it's one of those things you just can't find in a thrift store. Well, I can't anyway.
I've been watching the Office on Netflix lately. I watched the first few of both the British and the US versions, and I've decided I like the US one better. Because of Jim and Pam, of course! I'll probably give the British one a second chance though. I liked it, too!
So, spring break is coming right up, isn't it! For my school it's this week, and I'm going to Virginia with my family. We've got some relatives up there that we're going to visit, but I haven't seen them since I was like 5. So I imagine there will be a lot of awkward silences involved.
We're also going to go on a bike ride and maybe to this one Mexican restaurant we all love!
I just hope I can get some work done, too!

My Room

Hiiiiii
Today I thought I'd take you guys on a little tour of my dorm room! It's really small, and it's mine all mine. I love seeing other people's rooms and how they decorate them, so I took some pictures of mine for ya.
I've noticed interior design lately taking trends toward minimalism, but I've never been able to tone down the patterns when it comes to my space. You should see my room at home! And you will. Someday.
I really was wearing a cute outfit today, so I tried to take a quick little photo of it, too!

OH and also! I've been thinking of dying my hair red. Do you guys think it will look good?

Highway

This weekend I told Travis, "Let's pull over on the side of the highway to take pictures!" He obliged, but whined the whole time about how silly we seemed. I was like, "Welcome to my life."
You may notice I'm missing my glasses in these pictures. That's because I lost my glasses for about 24 hours this weekend! I seem to lose everything... this past week's casualties also include one of my favorite earrings and my debit card!
While I'm writing this post I'm also watching Pocahontas 2 on Netflix. I hadn't realized how much I watched it when I was a kid, but it's all rushing back to me now! General Disney sequel crappiness aside, I'm really loving it! It kindof feels like they remade Beauty and the Beast but with worse animation and also Native Americans.
I wore this long beaded cardigan over a vintage nightgown (which you can buy in my shop) for a 1920's drop-waist look, and then put a bow on it. Because when in doubt, that's what I do! Also I've been trying out my lovely new leather handbag I got from Megan for a commission!
I hope you guys had a nice weekend.
