Truly Impressive Shoes

My Dad manages the local Habitat for Humanity store.
The place has a Christmas party every year, and this time it was 70s themed! Here's my fabulous outfit. I got the shirt and pants on the dollar rack at Goodwill, and I've actually had these ridiculous platforms since the 8th grade when I got them at a church yardsale. These photos really don't even do them justice, since they are like, mid-calf suede boots.
I was, though, truly having a bad hair day. It was raining while I took these pictures, and I left my iron at school (or else I would've attempted Farrah Fawcett hair).
The party was a lot of fun for what it was.
What it was was a bunch of old people acting goofy and drinking beer in their bellbottoms. There was a gift exchange where people traded pieces of junk and an adorable child got a Twister game. A supa fly guy wearing a fake afro won a mini dance contest, and it was probably the highlight of the evening. I ate a lot of chocolate covered strawberries and seriously fantastic popcorn, so I left happy.

Golden

Most of the pictures I took turned out like this one.
Because I was messing with the ISO and it was cold and I was rushing. But I got some okay ones! I'm so excited to be home and have my white garage wall to fall back on for picture-taking. It's boring, I know, but when I get frustrated with the pictures I'm getting I can go back to my white wall and feel safe.

Anyone have any tips on that crazy white sky in the background and how to get rid of it? It was a cloudy day in the late afternoon, so it wasn't bright out. Changing the exposure on my point and shoot just darkened the stuff I didn't want darkened.
I only have one exam left and then I'm golden.
Just like, um, this dress!

Enwei and a New Dress

I know these photos aren't good either and it makes me sad and I'm working on it.
The point is I made this dress! It was sort of a companion design to my purple flowery one, because I came up with the idea at the same time and made them during the same weekend-long sewing session.
So it's exam week here at school, and I have nothing to do. Since my classes were all on book making this year all my work had to be turned in in time to get printed, and it was all done by Thanksgiving, and now I am bored. I don't handle boredom well, and I've been sort of sulking in my room, watching netflix, not wearing pants all day, and whining about the gross food on campus. Really, I'm not good at this.
In other clothes-related news, I packed my entire closet into a box today. I'm pretty impressed with myself, but to be fair it was a big box. You may wonder why the heck I am taking all of my clothes home, and the answer is that I've got a major wardrobe upheaval planned for break! And an etsy shop launch, too, so stay tuned, yo.

Any tips on making pictures less grainy? I didn't keep the camera far away and then crop them close, so I'm outta ideas.

The Wild Swans (read it!)

Remember my children's book?
Well, now you can read through it here. It's a little hard to make out the text, but honestly it was the best I could figure out! If you're interested in buying it, you can get it at lulu. They've got great print quality, and it would be a great gift, don't you think? Anyway, I'm real proud of it, and thank you all so much for your kind words!

In Which I Reveal Embarrassing Shoe Tips

I want to be good at photography.
I am an impatient person, and the learning process seems to be really slow going. Of course, I haven't actually read up on it or anything, so I guess I'm impatient and lazy. I really am going to try harder, though. I think the biggest lesson I learned from these pictures is that if your camera is far away from you, and you try to crop the picture so it looks more close-up, it will be low quality. On the bright side, my dress has KITTIES on it!
I got this sucker at the modcloth black friday sale, and I mean really. You know if you put kitties on something and make it under $30 Imma buy it. I love that fashion bloggers understand me in that respect. The non-internet world doesn't get it, do they?
I took these in front of a cute little grafitti in town, that says "hate is not an option." My camera was across the street from me so I have a few shots with cars in them. And the people in the cars have their heads turned towards me like "Girl, what the hell are you doing?"
I seriously love these shoes. But in the past whenever I tried to wear them, I ended up with blisters on my toes quicker than you could say "But they're so darn cute, it's worth it!" (Which I did say, several times.) But this time I discovered a secret.
Are you ready? It's a little weird, so don't you judge me!
I thought if I had something to cushion my toes it would act as a buffer of sorts. And I didn't have any cotton balls, so I cut up a tampon and taped it to my toes. Oh yeah. And it totally worked! I don't even care if you're judging me right now, actually, because I am blister-free and I can still wear my cute shoes.
Anyway, I hope you dudes have a freakin wonderful Monday!

Twirl

I was just so excited for this outfit.
I haven't worn this shirt in ages, and the dress and necklace are both new! Don't you guys love putting on something brand new and twirling around in it? I did my share of twirling, as you soon shall see.
So check this sucker out! It's a vintage toggle necklace, and I've been wanting one for ages. Oh Goodwill, I could sing your praises. My friend sent me a video that actually does! You can watch it if you're into silly raps, thrift stores, and looking fly.
So in other news. I am practically done with my school work for the semester! My books are finished and sent off for printing, my presentation is done, and I've just got two measly finals to study for before saying SAYONARA COLLEGE. For a month, anyway.
Check out this gif, though. I have never made such a great gif.

Buttons Anyone?

What's up, homies?!
I made a button for my blog, and you can find it over on the right sidebar! It's 200x200 pixels. If you want to swap with me, give me a link to yours and I'll put it up! Until I get like 10 or 15 or so, I won't say no! But you gotta put mine up on your blog too, of course.
I also want to throw it out there that I'm open for blog button commissions, if you want one like this done, or one like my profile picture. This one is watercolor and the other one is digital. I'll make you one for $15, or for a month's ad-space on your site, if you have over 200 followers.
I also just discovered that the key to making portraits accurate likenesses is to close the eyes. Don't say I never gave you nothin', that is basically the secret to being an artist.
HOLLA.

Thanksgiving

I'd love to hear about everyone's Thanksgivings.
The tradition in my family is to see a movie on Thanksgiving day. This year's was Life of Pi, which was okay. It stressed me out, but was really pretty. After that we make some kind of dinner that involves fish (since my sister and I are not-super-strict vegetarians) and potatoes (because who doesn't love potatoes). Then we eat that at the dining room table and go to bed.
We've never gone shopping for Black Friday, because we usually reserve that day to go and visit our extended family in North Carolina. There we have a pot-luck type thing and the desserts are usually the best part. My whole family sits around and complains about menopause or "youngins these days" because most of my family is post 50 year old women and/or rednecks. But really, I enjoy it.
I thought these photos just screamed "fall". Or "FALL!!" Since they're screaming. Am I right?
This year I woke up early to try and shop at Goodwill, but there was no one there and not a sale in sight! I mean, I don't know how much more of a sale Goodwill can have, since they have a dollar rack every weekend, but still. I was disappointed.
I also bought a couple things at Ruche's and Modcloth's sales. Can't wait for them to get here!
