DIY CAT PANTS

C'mon you guys, you know cat pants deserve all caps. I made these beauties myself, and they are my pride and joy. I did them back in June and have been waiting for fall to come to show 'em off!
Forgive the quality of the process photos, pretty please.
So here are the steps I took to make them.
I got some flared khakis from Goodwill. Then I made them fit me.
Once they were skinny, I drew cats all over them with a sharpie.
Then, I decided on a color scheme.
Then it was paintin' time! I used watered down acrylics that I mixed in plastic cups.
If you guys do paint your own pants this way, only hand wash them afterwards. I thought I'd already washed them, but I hadn't, and they fade quite a bit if you put them in the machine.
And here's how I wore them!
I was a little nervous about wearing them out around campus, because, let's face it, they're on the ridiculous side. But everyone loved them! And of course I do too.

Velvet

Sometimes I forget to wear my glasses to my morning classes. And then I can't see the board.
But anyway, this dress is velvet, so I'm super excited for the fall weather to make it part of my everyday outfits!
Here's the dress before I shortened it. Those pretty sleeves were so cute and it was only a dollar. You know, it's hard to feel guilty about your addictions when they're so cheap to fund.
In other news, my dryer is truly a force to be reckoned with. It covers everything in lint that won't budge, shrinks things that have never shrunk before, tears up anything with beads, and leaves everything a little bit damp. It's making laundry such a chore.

DIY Shoe Straps

Here's a quick DIY for adding a strap to your shoes! It's really easy and really cuteifies them, I think!
1. First, you'll need some shoes and some matching elastic. Mine is a stretchy lace and velvet setup I found at Hobby Lobby, and the shoes are second hand suede. You'll also need some scissors and hot glue.
2. Put the shoe on, and wrap the elastic around your foot where you want the strap to be.
 3. Cut it at the right length.
 4. Hot glue the elastic down on the inside of your shoe.
 5. Glue it on the other side, and you're done!
You can try using a stronger glue if you don't want to walk on eggshells. Forgive the pun.

Everything's Coming Up

 This weekend I
bought peach tea
took pictures of wildflowers
got free coffee
slept in til 12:30
cuddled with my sweetie
had discussions about religion
drove home in the rain.
I am pretty proud of this little re-fashion. Most of the time I just hem a dress and call it a day, but this time I shortened the sleeves, took in the bodice, and hemmed it. It may not show, but it really fits a lot better now. And it was only a dollar, so of course it was worth it!

Hope your weekend was as good as mine!

Empty Apartment

This is one of the dresses I made! But with a vest.
I took these pictures in my living room. No one uses it at all ever, not even me. Except to take pictures of myself, apparently. While I was shooting the exterminator walked in and I sort of slunk away like I wasn't just posing for a tripod.
I have some suitemates I live with, but I almost never see them. One of them I see a couple times a week, and the other I haven't seen since I moved in! If I saw her on campus I would probably not even recognize her!
I added the straps to these heels myself. It was really easy, but I'll post a quickie DIY later this week!
I got this cool bracelet from Goodwill! It's hard to find jewelry there normally, so this was exciting.
I spent way too much money this week at romwe and modcloth, so I'm putting myself under some thrifting restrictions for awhile. To make myself feel less guilty.

Aspire

I'm considering opening an etsy shop to sell some illustration prints and vintage clothing. Sometimes I just want to quit school and be a fashion designer. And I'm an illustration major! School is fun for me!
When I graduate I really really want to just open up a vintage shop that I curate. I'm really into design and atmosphere and I just can't wait to do the window displays and set up the interior.
But I'm afraid of losing money. It's hard enough to make a living with illustration as it is.
But about the etsy shop. I'm scared of doing that too. I might wait until I have more of a following. What do you guys think? I have loads of vintage I'd love to sell!
On the day I wore this, Travis and I went on an adventure of sorts to the river where we played with the geese and waded into water a sign informed us was dangerous to swim in. It was a beautiful day.
I am wearing heels in only this picture! I changed shoes halfway through the day so we could go to the river.
